TestLift — DVO to CDV Migration Tool
TestLift is CoeurData’s migration accelerator that moves test cases from Informatica Data Validation Option (DVO) to Cloud Data Validation (CDV) on IDMC, with up to 80% automated conversion and significantly shorter migration timelines.
- Up to 80% of test cases auto-migrated
- Migration effort cut by as much as 50%
- Designed for large, enterprise-scale DVO estates
About CoeurData
Data Engineering Excellence, Since 2011
CoeurData has spent more than a decade helping enterprises build robust, high-quality data pipelines across major ETL platforms including Informatica PowerCenter, IDMC, DataStage, SSIS, Talend, Azure Data Factory, AWS Glue, Databricks, and PySpark. Our flagship platform, Undraleu, closes the long-standing gap in data-engineering code quality and governance by enforcing automated checks and best practices across heterogeneous stacks.
TestLift extends this expertise into the world of cloud migrations, focusing specifically on customers moving from on-premises DVO to CDV on IDMC.
The Migration Challenge
Why DVO to CDV Migrations Are Hard
Thousand-plus test cases
Large organizations typically maintain extensive DVO suites. Recreating each test case and rule manually in CDV is slow, repetitive, and error-prone.
Inconsistent manual conversion
Hand migration leads to transcription mistakes, gaps in coverage, and inconsistent interpretations of rule logic across teams and projects.
Evolving IDMC capabilities
CDV and broader IDMC features go beyond original DVO capabilities. Customers need guidance on what can be migrated as-is and what requires redesign.
TestLift was built to take the heavy lifting out of this journey, providing a repeatable, auditable path from DVO assets to CDV projects.
The Accelerator
What Is TestLift?
TestLift connects to your DVO repository, analyzes test suites and rules, and generates equivalent Cloud Data Validation assets through CDV APIs. Where a direct one-to-one mapping exists, migration is fully automated; more complex or unsupported patterns are flagged for review.
Purpose-built for Informatica DVO → CDV migrations.
Embeds CoeurData’s domain knowledge of both PowerCenter and IDMC.
Integrates into Undraleu-driven quality and governance workflows.
Key Benefits at a Glance
Automates up to 80% of compatible DVO test cases.
Overall migration timeline cut by as much as 50%.
Eliminates common human transcription and copy-paste errors.
Ensures validation rules are aligned with CDV best practices.
Scales to hundreds or thousands of test cases and suites.
Designed so no production data leaves your controlled environment.
Coverage & Design Choices
Why Not 100% Automated Migration?
CDV is part of a broader IDMC ecosystem that includes IDQ, CDI, and other modules. Some DVO patterns do not have a direct counterpart in CDV, and blindly forcing a mapping would compromise validation quality.
For such cases, TestLift supports several options:
Highlight and report unsupported rule types or constructs.
Recommend alternate implementations using other IDMC capabilities where appropriate.
Provide a clear list of items to escalate to Informatica or to handle via tailored workarounds.
This approach keeps the automation rate high while still preserving functional intent and auditability.
Product Capabilities
Core Features of TestLift
Metadata Extraction
Reads DVO repositories to pull test cases, validation rules, and source/target mappings into the TestLift repository for analysis.
Rule & Key Translation
Translates common rule types—including row-count, key-match, and column-match checks—while mapping key definitions to CDV entities.
Error Detection & Reporting
Flags unsupported rules, incompatible constructs, and cases requiring manual review, then summarizes findings in migration dashboards.
CDV Object Creation
Uses CDV REST APIs to create or update test suites and test cases in target IDMC projects, based on approved mappings.
Migration Log
Maintains a detailed audit log so teams can trace which DVO rule became which CDV test case, when it happened, and who approved it.
Phased or Bulk Migration
Supports both incremental migration of selected suites and large-scale, batch-style conversion, depending on project strategy.
Implementation Flow
TestLift Migration Process — Step by Step
Discovery & Inventory — Connect TestLift to the DVO repository (read-only) and build a catalog of existing test suites, rules, and mappings.
Mapping & Transformation — Apply transformation rules that translate DVO constructs into CDV-compatible structures, including rule type and connection mapping.
Review & Adjustments — Examine flagged items, unsupported rules, and complex scenarios; refine mappings or plan compensating designs.
CDV Load — Use CDV APIs to create test suites and test cases in the designated IDMC organization unit and projects.
Validation & Reporting — Run sample CDV executions, validate outcomes, and review TestLift dashboards to monitor progress across migrated and pending items.
